 Matanzas: First Team with Twenty Wins in Cuban National Baseball HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 31 (acn) Matanzas appears today safely on top of the standings of Cuban baseball championship after defeating Industriales 7-3 to become the first team arriving to 20 wins in the season.

The Matanzas Crocodiles batted 14 hits, led by shortstop Dainer Moreira - 4 for 5 with two runs-, plus the cleanup hitter and outfielder Yadiel Hernandez, with a homer and two RBIs in the match.

Relief pitcher Ramon Licor shoned from the mound when not allowing hits in five and two thirds innings, while Ernesto Iglesias took the loss.

Ciego de Avila continued to hunt for the leaders by beating 11-4 Isla de la Juventud. The winner was Yadir Rabi, who allowed just one hit in seven innings and a third, and was backed by catcher Rudeldis Garcia, 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs.

Granma and Artemisa confirmed their upward trend by winning in their respective matches against Cienfuegos and Las Tunas, to keep tied in the third seat of the standings.

The first of them beat 7-5 the Elephants with offensive highlight by third baseman Lazaro Cedeno with a homer and three RBIs, while the Artemisa Hunters completed the sweep on the Woodcutters through a 4-3 victory.

Yunieski Garcia achieved his fifth win offensively backed by shortstop Diosbel Arias with two RBIs, while Yosvani Alarcón hit his seventh homer by the defeated team, to tie on top of that stat with Sancti Spiritus´ outfielder Livan Monteagudo.

In other matches of the day, Mayabeque escaped from the sweep by winning 5-3 over Pinar del Rio, Sancti Spiritus handed down a 6-0 shutout to Santiago de Cuba, Villa Clara defeated 8-3 Guantanamo and Holguin knocked out Camaguey 10-0.
