Matanzas Loses, Stays Atop Standings in National Baseball SeriesHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 30 (acn) Solid pitching performance by Ian Rendón led Industriales to take revenge against the leader Matanzas with a 9-3 win yesterday in the Cuban baseball championship.

Rendon reached his fourth win of the season by allowing three hits and one earned run in six innings, with nine strikeouts, and was backed by Hector Ponce´s save and offensive highlight by Yunieski Gourriel and Rudy Reyes with two RBIs per capita.

Ciego de Avila did not take advantage from the defeat of the current national runners up to approach the top of the standings, by losing 7-8 to the Isle of Youth, in a match won by reliever Jesus Reynaldo Amador, and Danny Aguilera achieved his fourth save of the season.

Outfielder Jorge Alberto Tartabull led the winners´ offensive when batting 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, seconded by first baseman Luis Felipe Rivera, who hit 4 for 5 and two runs.

In evening hours, Pinar del Río, current monarch, extended its winning streak to five consecutive wins by beating twice the battered team of Mayabeque with scores of 12-1 and 5-3, to get to the gates of the called qualifying area to the second round.

There was also a double program between Villa Clara and Guantanamo where the Oranges won the first match 3-0, while in the second the Guantanamo Indians took revenge by narrow margin of 2-0.
