HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 22 (acn) Determined to achieve the desired win, the Cuban U 17 soccer team will have today a crucial match against Martinique, on the second date of the Caribbean final phase tournament, based in Haiti.
If they beat Martinique at Sylvio Cator stadium, in Port au Prince, the disciples of Coach Fidel Salazar would earn a ticket to the World Cup Qualifying tournament of this category, to be held next year in Honduras.
Cubans defeated 5-0 Guadalupe in their first match of the contest with goals from Yoesan Alonso, Sergey Campillo, Ray Charles, Carlos Borromeo and Omar Romero. Meanwhile, in the same group B , Jamaica beat 4-0 Martinique.
So, with three points, Cuban and Jamaican march at the head of that poole. Group A, meanwhile, includes the squads of Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Barbados and Haiti.
The top two teams from each group will get tickets for the tournament in Honduras.
Cuba has attended two Under 17 Soccer World Cups: Scotland 1989 and Italy 1991.
