Cuba Loses to Puerto Rico in World Volleyball Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 25 (acn) Puerto Rican women's team defeated Cuba on the first round second day in Group D of the World Volleyball Championship, which takes place in several Italian cities.

According to the website of the contest, Puerto Ricans beat 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-19) Cuban young team in one hour and 17 minutes, in Bari.

The top scorer of the game was the Puerto Rican Karina Ocasio, with 24 points, who was backed up by her teammates Stephanie Enright (12) and Yarimar Rosa (10).

Meanwhile, Cuba's best scorers were Melissa Vargas, who is only 14, with 14) units, followed by Daymara Lescay and Alena Rojas (9).

Cuba 's next rival in the preliminary round will be Japan, China and Azerbaijan, in that order.

In the other two games of group D, China and Japan beat Azerbaijan (3-0) and Belgium (3-1) respectively.
In yesterday's matches of Poole A, based in Rome, the Dominican Republic, Germany and Italy beat all 3-0 Tunisia, Argentina and Croatia, in that order.

Turkey, Brazil and Serbia defeated 3-0, 3-0 and 3-2 Canada, Cameroon and Bulgaria, on group B, in Trieste, while United States, Russia and Holland won over Kazakhstan, Mexico and Thailand in Poole C, headquartered in Verona.
