Congress of Microbiology and Parasitology begins today in CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 (acn) The 9th Congress of Microbiology and Parasitology begins today its scientific sessions to debate around the branches of medicine studying infectious diseases.

The main topics of the event will be: Zika, dengue and other arboviruses, HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, cholera, influenza, microbial resistance, strengthening of coping skills, among others, according to the website of the organizing committee.

The meeting, which is held at the Havana Convention Center, welcomes more than 300 experts from 20 nations, including Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, El Salvador, Peru, United States, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France and Japan.

At the meeting, which will last until next Friday, the academics will pay tribute to the eight decades of Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK by its Spanish acronym), an institution devoted to the study of infectious diseases.

The 6th National Congress of Tropical Medicine, a Seminar on HIV / AIDS in Cuba and the International Symposium on Chromoblastomycosis will run in parallel to the event.

The academic program also includes the International Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance, and there will also be address topics such as the national and international experience in the management of cholera, and integrated control of arbovirus vectors.
