HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 11 (acn) The Cuban medical brigade that offered its services in Chile following the heavy rains that hit the northern area of Atacama in late April has returned home.
Deputy Health Minister Marcia Cobas welcomed the Brigade on Wednesday night at Havana's Jose Marti International Airport, while acknowledging the work done by this group of 15 health professionals, members of the Henry Reeve Contingent.
Accompanied by Santiago Badia, Secretary General of the Health Workers Union, Cobas also praised the work being done by doctors and paramedics who provide solidarity assistance in Nepal, after the earthquake that devastated that region.
Carlos Ricardo Perez, head of the group that returned from Chile, gave Cobas a certificate the medical team received from the Municipality of Rancagua for the tireless humanitarian work carried out in Chile in 2010 and 2015, leaving an indelible mark of dignity, solidarity, love and dedication.
Several members of this group have offered their services in other parts of the world and some have worked in areas hit by natural disasters, while for others this is their first mission.
Cuban medical brigades have helped the Chilean people on three occasions: when the earthquakes occurred in 1960 and 2010, and in 2015 after the heavy rains that hit the Atacama.
