SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Oct 2 (ACN) The José Luis Miranda pediatric university hospital in the city of Santa Clara receives foreign and domestic donations that contribute to the improvement of 11 different health care services, according to Dr. Marta Beatriz García Carballoso, head of the oncohematology ward, where about 45 new children from Central Cuba who suffer from serious illnesses are admitted every year.
“There are first-line medicines that we cannot use because they have a U.S. patent and treatments, as in the case of hemophilia, which require clotting factor concentrates made by U.S. companies and therefore denied us,” she points out.
Israel Monteagudo Leal, an official with the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, referred to the growing interest of solidarity brigades, delegations and individuals from all over the world in lending a hand for the benefit of Cuban health care, especially for vulnerable groups.
On his end, Dr. Armando Fernandez Alegret, general director of the regional center, confirms that Cuban farmers, artisans, labor unions and new economic actors join the effort to help these young patients by donating foods, toys, textiles and other items. He also made reference to other internationally recognized projects such as Por una Sonrisa de la Cultura and the Jose Marti Brigade, bring joy to these children and their families in these difficult times,” he added.
In its fight against the U.S. blockade, this hospital in the province of Villa Clara receives support from thousands of Cubans and people from other countries.
