HAVANA, Cuba, 15 (ACN) Georg W. J. Auburger, renowned neuroscientist from Germany, will be accredited tomorrow in this city as Corresponding Member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC), a status granted only to non-residents in the country who contribute to the development of science.
Following his decoration, the distinguished academic will give a lecture at the ACC about his joint and long-standing research with Cuban peers.
Mr. Auburger is top-level scientist who enjoys great prestige in Germany and across the world for his results in various fields of Neurobiology and has several patents and some 400 published articles to his credit. He has made impressive contributions to the German Society of Neurology, the American Society of Human Genetics, and the European Federation of Hereditary Ataxias and is a member of editorial boards of major international journals.
Mr. Auburger is the second German scientist to receive such a title in recent months, as last April it was awarded to his colleague Dr. Ulf Ziemann, medical director of the Department of Neurology of the University Hospital of Tübingen and ACC member since 2022.
Since then, Mr. Ziemann has collaborated regularly with Cuban scientists, especially in Electrophysiology and Biomarkers for the prediction, early diagnosis and monitoring of type 2 spinocerebellar ataxia.
