HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 21 (ACN) The project "Strengthening the capacity of the National Health System for the COVID-19 crisis" delivered today a donation of medical supplies to the Lidia and Clodomira polyclinic, in the Regla municipality of Havana.
The initiative is financed by the government of Japan, and the United Nations Children's Fund ( UNICEF) is in charge of its implementation, with the participation of Cuban authorities.
Hirata Kenji, ambassador of that Asian nation to Cuba, said that the donation is mostly made up of refrigeration equipment, to benefit the cold chains of vaccination campaigns and scientific-epidemiological research.
For her part, Alejandra Trossero, representative of UNICEF, pointed out that this project represents a direct and long-term support, and benefits more than 6 million people, among them 1.2 million children.
On behalf of the government and people of Cuba, Ana Teresita Gonzalez Fraga, first deputy minister of foreign trade and foreign investment, thanked Japan for what she considered a further demonstration of solidarity, which not only contributes to improving the conditions for vaccination against COVID-19, but also against 13 other diseases.
