Ciego de Avila, Oct 7 (ACN) European and Cuban surgeons shared their experiences on minimal access surgery in orthopedics during the 16th International Symposium on Arthroscopy, Articular and Sports Surgery, which wound up Friday in this central Cuban city.
Through lectures and practices in operation rooms at the Doctor Antonio Luaces Provincial Hospital, the specialists shared expertise about the diagnosis, treatment and surgical procedures to deal with conditions in knees, shoulders and other parts of the body.
The event allowed for a comprehensive and inter-disciplinary look at surgery from the views of anesthesiologists, physiatrists, orthopedists, radiologists and sport physicians to increase chances for success to improve the quality of life of the patients.
Doctor Leidy Viera, Diagnostic Imaging expert at the Arnaldo Milian Castro provincial hospital in central Villa Clara province, referred to what she described as integral consultations and the need to introduce the science of imaging and develop arthroscopic and articular radiology to obtain better results.
Meanwhile, Doctor Eduard Buess, professor and member of the Swiss-Austria-Germany Arthroscopy and Articular Surgery Society, stressed the ongoing relations among European, US and Cuban specialists for the past two decades to favor the progress of minimal access surgery in Orthopedics.
Young Cuban professionals are provided with training in the latest arthroscopic surgery techniques in countries like Switzerland, France, Germany and Austria, which is crucial cooperation to develop such proceedings in Cuba, said Buess.
Doctor Osvaldo Garcia, president of the Cuban Arthroscopy, Articular and Sports Surgery with the Cuban Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, stressed the presence of some one hundred professionals, including representatives of all Cuban provinces and three prestige professors from European academies.
After two years under the pandemic, the event takes place again associated to the international project known as “Setting up Arthroscopic Bridges”, which contributes to strengthening relations among professionals from different nations.
The forum also addresses benefits for patients with articular conditions, based on the introduction and study of new and less invasive techniques, which are more effective and help reduce the convalescence period.
