Cuba reorganizes Public Health services in the new normal

HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Nov 24 (ACN) Hospitals in the province of Holguin are readjusting their services to guarantee the provision of health care to the population, without neglecting COVID-19 case-finding and –tracking in several municipalities still affected by the disease.

As part of the new normal, the Lucía Íniguez Landín Surgical Clinic Hospital and the Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital will preserve a number of beds in their wards and intensive care units for possible cases of infection as they gradually reactivate their outpatient and emergency care services, among others.

Specialties such as endocrinology, neurology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, cardiology and post-surgery care will reopen consultations in community polyclinics, where the health protocols will remain in place, including physical distancing to avoid overcrowding, hygiene measures and the limitation of visiting hours.

In the province, care for convalescents will also continue and biosecurity measures will be taken in social institutions such as nursing homes, grandparents' homes, psychiatric hospitals and psycho-pedagogical medical centers, including active health screening.

Despite the drop in the number of COVID-19 cases, the province of Holguín still suffers from a high incidence of contagion in some municipalities, where more than 150 active clusters remain under epidemiological surveillance.
