HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 27 (ACN) Cuba registered today 7,639 new positive cases of COVID-19, representing a slight decrease of 870 cases less than the number of those reported yesterday (8,509).
Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of epidemiology, pointed out that this figure is the lowest reported in August, and stated that the number of cases admitted (105,128) and the number of confirmed active cases (47,131) have also decreased.
Although the number of active cases continues to be very high, it is unquestionably down, as there are 2,466 fewer than those reported yesterday, said the specialist, adding that this is due to the decrease in the number of confirmed cases and the increase in the number of recovered patients.
He reiterated that the deceased patients have a history of being contacts of previously confirmed cases, with comorbidities such as arterial hypertension, ischemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, obesity, chronic renal disease and bronchial asthma, among others.
Since the report of the first cases of COVID-19 in Cuba in March last year, the country has accumulated 627,311 confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2, 575,139 recovered patients and 4,984 deaths.
