Cuban fine alcohol distillery in start-up phase

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 15 (ACN) A modern distillery, which will produce fine alcohols of the highest quality for the national and international market, entered the start-up and technological adjustment phase in Aguada de Pasajeros, Cienfuegos.

Alficsa Plus S. A is a Cuban-Spanish joint venture that arose after completing the comprehensive rehabilitation process of the old plant exists on site and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, according to information by Granma.
This is an important investment for the country, which in addition to its industrial significance has the added chain of production, because being located in areas close to the Antonio Sánchez sugar mill, it will generate waste that will be used by the surrounding torula plants for the production of animal feed and co2 for beverages and soft drinks.
Belonging to the Azcuba Business Group, the unit closes the cycle with the final use of the waste converted into fertilizers for sugarcane plantations.
The project to rehabilitate the plant - in the amount of 827,400 pesos, total currency - will allow it to become the most modern and efficient of its kind in the nation in the near future.
Engineer Lucía Mayra Rodríguez Rivero, executive vice president of the joint venture, said that the reactivation of the distillery, after being six years paralyzed, focused on improving the area of steam generation, water quality and cooling and rectification of alcohols, after complete automation and modernization of systems.
She added that in less than a year specialized forces and the entity's own workers worked promptly and qualitatively in the assembly of a new 20-ton steam boiler, with proven results in energy efficiency.
An investment was also made in an innovative reverse osmosis water treatment plant of 1,000 cubic meters, whose purpose is to guarantee the quality of the fluid throughout the process.
In the distillation area, a new cooling tower was installed, as well as the change and increase of rolls in the rectifying column, a benefit that results in greater production and quality of alcohol.
The investment will allow to reach productions over one thousand hectoliters daily of fine alcohols.
