Cuba reaffirms willingness to accept and channel international aid for tornado victimsHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 14 (ACN) Cuba reiterates the position of accepting international aid for the victims of the tornado that hit Havana on January 27, and channeling resources to be used for the benefit of those affected, said the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba (Mincex), Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz.

Aid from our friends around the world is already being used in the affected areas, said Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, in the Roundtable TV show.

Malmierca Díaz highlighted Venezuela's act of solidarity which, even in the midst of the attempted coup d'état and the danger of military aggression, sent equipment and construction materials.

The Minister reported that the aid is both material and monetary, and that for the latter case two accounts were created, one managed by the International Financial Bank for the hard currencies, enabled with the number 0300000005093523, and another by the Metropolitan Bank, which assumes the donations in Cuban pesos, with number 0598770002953216.

According to ACN, as of Tuesday, financial contributions amount to 3,393,217 pesos in national currency (CUP) and 201,942 CUC.

Malmierca Diaz stated that material donations do not pay tariffs, since they enter the country without customs charge, and are organized with the ministries of Construction, Health and Mincex itself, so that they are distributed free of charge to the affected population.

He said that the accusations that assured that the Cuban government was hindering the arrival of aid have been proven to be false, since it became evident that it is the opposite.

The government, he emphasized, has supported the people in their eagerness to recover quickly and effectively, showing the solidarity and disposition that characterize Cubans.
