Strong agricultural investment program in Cuban provinceHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 3 (ACN) The Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture in the eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas reported that will put in operations some 875 irrigation systems throughout its territory in order to increase food production.

The investment program of the agricultural agency obeys the need to increase production throughout the year, an issue that has not been able to achieve the territory because only nine percent of its soils have irrigation, despite the fact that it is the driest province of Cuba with an average rainfall of 1,038 millimeters annually.

Omar Perez Lopez, delegate of Agriculture in Las Tunas, told the press that the 22 million pesos that the sector has this year in the province contemplates, in addition, the installation of a plant of benefit, drying and packing of grains that rises in a side of the circumvallation south of the provincial capital.

The plant has the capacity to process 60 tons daily, which will speed up the work of cooperative members and workers of state entities in the periods of bean and corn harvests, mainly.

Pérez López said that 39 mechanical milking machineries will be installed and three warehouses will be built for the production of seven million eggs, and two silos for the storage of rice, with a capacity of one thousand tons each.

The Agriculture Delegation acquired more than 120 tractors of different types, 44 sprinklers, 28 harvesters and 18 seeders.

The investment program materializes at a time when Las Tunas is immersed in the consolidation of 31 production poles in its eight municipalities, among which the "Melanio Ortiz" stands out, of reference for its integrality and headquarters today of the provincial act for the Agricultural Worker's Day.
