Bartenders from 18 nations to compete in HavanaHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 22 (ACN) Representatives of 18 nations will compete in the XXII Pan American Cocktail Championship IBA 2018, scheduled from 25 to 30 at the hotel Tryp Habana Libre, in this capital city, where its workers plan to achieve a Guinness Record with the largest "Cuba Libre" cocktail in the world.

In a press conference at the emblematic tourist institution, José Rafa Malém, president of the Association of Cuban Bartenders (ACC), stressed that the event is even more prestigious for Cuba since the island nation was the first country in the world to have a bartenders club, 94 years ago, and that a Cuban was the first, and so far only, Latin American champion in a world bartender's championship, which took place in 2003.

Precisely since that year, the island has not only been part of the International Bartenders Association (IBA), but among its 68 member nations it has the largest number of associates - some three thousand - as well as aspiring to host a world cocktail event in 2022.

As part of this desire, we want this XXII Pan American Meeting to shine for its organization, quality and high competitive level, said the director of the ACC.

José Luis Brito, president of the Organizing Committee of the event, stressed that both products and services according to the competition and its collateral activities are mostly national, and highlighted the attendance to the meeting of managers, entrepreneurs and guests of bartender organizations and beverage production and marketing companies from several countries.

During the event, four famous Cuban cocktails will be on offer and will offer their franchises: Palmares Floridita with its Daiquiri, Bodeguita del Medio with its Mojito, Gato Tuerto with the Orgasmo del gato and Tropicana with Tropicana Special.

Brito mentioned the participation of bartenders from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, the United States, Venezuela, Uruguay and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as Cuba, and Belize and Panama as guests.

They will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the modalities in the Classic Pan American Cup, sponsored by Havana Club International, in Flair or Libre, Bartender Challenge and Copa Amistad Clásica, while in the Solidarity Hall of Habana Libre there will be conferences (Master Class) and in the 1930 Hall of the National Hotel, a meeting with Cuban rum masters.

Antonio Benítez, maitre d' Tryp Habana Libre, highlighted the interest of his workers to set a Guinness Record on Sunday 26th with the largest "Cuba Libre" cocktail in the world, which, according to its main promoter, bartender Sergio Serrano, will require some 18 cases of Havana Club 3 Años rum, depending on the size of the ice cubes used to make it, and a large quantity of coke

Serrano won the IBA Classic Cocktail World Championship, held in October 2003 in the Spanish city of Seville, and now, in his capacity as head of bars at the emblematic hotel, said that Havana Club International S.A. will provide the container (with a capacity of around a thousand litres) and the rum, and the company Los Portales S.A. will provide the coke.
