Cuba and Vietnam to expand economic cooperationHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 20 (ACN) The governments of Cuba and Vietnam are working together to increase economic cooperation and bilateral business, Granma newspaper reports this Monday.

The Vietnamese ambassador to Cuba, Nguyen Trung Thanh, said there is political determination and steps are being taken to actively, effectively and creatively implement a new trade agreement.

Vietnam is Cuba's second largest trading partner in Asia, a position that should be strengthened with the entry into force of the bilateral agreement, established last March.

Trung Thanh pointed out that the two economies have complementary characteristics, which is an advantage for cooperation.

Regarding the difficulties, he referred to the distance between the two countries and the still limited mutual knowledge to promote trade ties.

In this regard, the Vietnamese diplomat suggested acting proactively and with greater determination to overcome the obstacles.

He stressed that Cubans are happy people, who in the midst of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States continue to maintain their revolutionary spirit and character.

With a life expectancy of 80 years, he said, which is higher than in many other countries, it cannot be said that Cubans are people who live in severe conditions.

Among the latest agreements established by both nations are the creation of the company ViMariel SA for the development of an industrial park and the construction of a detergent factory in the Mariel.
