Annual Investment Plan Evaluated in the Isle of Youth

Nueva Gerona, Cuba, Dec 26 (acn) Preliminary calculations of the Economy and Planning Directive revealed that the special municipality of the Isle of Youth will close this year with 85 percent of the investment plan of the Comprehensive Development Program.

The Director of Economy and Planning, Rolando Linares, commented that a group of work was executed aimed at increasing the quality of life of the locals among them modernizing the aqueduct network of the city of Nueva Gerona and assembly of two modules of the desalinization plant in Cayo Largo del Sur.

This tourism complex –belonging to the special municipality- grew in the number of hotel rooms; the communication sector broadened its services with the objective of guaranteeing the computerization of society program; the food and agriculture industries are being modernized and other Health and Culture social projects have been remodeled, he said.

He highlighted that public transportation service has improved this year with the arrival of 21 DIANA and 5 Yutong busses, in addition to the investments executed in the cattle sector which will contribute in an increase in productions and selection among others.

However, entities under the Ministries of Construction and Transportation are mainly involved in complying with the annual plan.

The Vice President of the Municipal Administrative Council, Rene Soto explained on the critical situation in which the maritime cargo transportation is going through –only way for resources to reach the special municipality for its sustainability and development- whose main problem is the tugboats.

A report by ACN last December 20th referred that due to the low technical availability, or deficit in spare parts, these vessels –vital to help maneuver larger vessels- have ended their maintenance cycles and currently there is only one left.

The first semester of the year was complex for the construction industry due to technological problems.

The President of the Commission of Economic, Social and Work Affairs of the Municipal Assembly of the People's Power, Ramon Ledesma, emphasized on the importance of improving the control of the technical preparation of the investments to avoid changes in the work and avoid delays in its execution.
