Varadero: Hotels Ready to Welcome Clients from other Tourism DestinationsMATANZAS, Cuba, Sept 6 (ACN) Comfortable installations located in safe areas are ready in Varadero to welcome, if necessary clients from Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria and other beach resorts before the threat of Hurricane Irma.

Representative of the Tourism Ministry in the province of Matanzas, Ivis Fernandez Pena expressed that they have the necessary resources to guarantee services and assistance to visitors. She stressed that since the mechanisms of the Cuban Civil Defense were activated, they have been working in the major risk areas like the Kawama road from where some 200 thousand visitors have been transferred.

During the meeting of the provincial Defense Council held on Wednesday, its President Teresa Rojas Monzon called everyone to comply with all the measures in place to protect lives and economic resources and warned that the territory has over 270 kilometers of coasts to the north that includes the municipalities of Marti, Cardenas and the city of Matanzas.

Referring to the main tourism complex in the country, the representative stressed the importance in protecting the over 17 thousand 600 clients that are currently lodged in the area, like in the over 50 hotels in the peninsula and the private homes in addition to the network of stores and other extra hotel services.

The water situation in Matanzas, distribution of agricultural products to the population, fuel, transportation for those that need to be evacuated, public health, hospitality availability and medications were issues that were evaluated in the meeting.

The Vice President of the Administrative Council pointed out that they have 35 evacuation sites prepared in the northern municipalities, three in Marti, 12 in Cardenas and 20 in the city of Matanzas.

The coastal city has risk zones like the communities located along the San Juan and Yumuri Rivers, Los Molinos, areas of the El Tenis beach and the Penas Altas neighborhood among others.
