Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Jun 6 (acn) An electric generating center in Cayo Romano, north of Ciego de Avila is an important step for tourism development in Jardines del Rey, among the most important in Cuba.

The tourism enclave is benefited with an increase in the electric infrastructure due to the investment program to the year 2025 reaching 20 thousand rooms.

Yosbel Vergel Eng, electric engineer heading the Comprehensive Projects Directive in the northern keys, told ACN that the generating center will produce 1.8 megawatts in its first stage to guarantee the service to the temporary facilities in the Los Lirios area in Cayo Paredon Grande where the initial stage of construction of the first hotel on the key is underway.

The value of the investment surpassed 19 million pesos in its first stage and the figure will exceed the 40 million when the 7.5 megawatts, maximum capacity has been concluded, said Vergel Eng.

The increase in the generation will allow taking in the demand of the growing hotel room capacity, some 4 thousand, in Paredon Grande and Anton Chico, he said.

In recent years electricity work has expanded in Jardines del Rey, allowing keys like Guillermo and Coco to be interconnected through an underground line of 38 kilometers in length.
