Cohiba Cigars Leads in Sales in Central America

Havana, Cuba, May 9 (acn) Two million Cuban cigars are sold annually in Central America, while the Cohiba brand leads the region, said the General Manager of the Cruz Canela and Trust GB S.A Company Luis Garcia.

According to Prensa Latina News Agency, the Costa Rican business executive also offered details on the increase of the sales of the Cohiba Short brand, a mixture between the previous cigar and the Purito, opening expectation in the sales of the Habanos.

He highlighted the quality of the packaging and format of that type of cigar, which was presented in the last edition of the Cigar Festival in Havana.

That is why, he said, the Cuban cigars are accepted well and are increasing in Central America, a geographic area whose tourism sector is developing. Its main market are visitors from the US who currently do not have restrictions in purchasing the Cuban cigars.

Garcia Cruz pointed out that despite the prohibitions and sanctions imposed by the health authorities to smokers in countries like Panama where the prices of these products are high, the Cuban cigars are accepted by the people.

However, our market is mainly focused towards tourism, where most of the consumers look for the product and where the cigars can be sold at any store, due to its quality and exclusivity, he said.

Despite being a luxury product, we try to approach anyone because of its demand, said the business executive.

Prensa Latina reported that since its creation in 1966 in Havana, the Cohiba is not only the insignia brand of the Internacional Cubana de Tobacos S.A, but is also the most prestigious in the world of Premium cigars with an annual growth of a little more than 4 percent in recent years.

Founded in Costa Rica in 2010, Cruz Canela and Trust GB S.A., is the exclusive distributor of Habanos S.A for Panama and Nicaragua, in addition to mechanized cigars sold by ICT for Central America.
