MATANZAS, Cuba, Mar 29 (acn) With yields over 25 tons (t) per hectare (h), the El Roque Cooperative Production Basic Unit (UBPC by its Spanish acronym), expects to conclude its potato campaign before April 30, if the gathering company stabilizes transportation.
On this occasion, weather conditions, both rainfall and temperature, were favorable for cultivation, in addition to cultural attention, Adalberto Dueñas, UBPC head of production, told ACN.
This entity planted a total of 414.4 h of the tuber, said Idelfonso López, technical and development director of the company.
Yerly Rodríguez, 25, at the head of an area of the unit, stated that the workforce is motivated because the compensation is good, they only complain about the instability of the transport and they fear for the losses that this can cause to the economy of the entity.
Lopez stressed that, in addition to El Roque, two others UBPCs of this municipality have results higher than planned and above the previous campaign.
Dueñas, with more than 30 years of experience in agricultural work, noted that in the already harvested lands, they rushed to plant corn, pumpkin, sweet potato, cucumber and other vegetables, short cycle products, to take advantage from the nutrients of the soils.
