VILLA CLARA, Cuba, Mar 7 (ACN) The Villa Clara sugar industry workers completed the first 150 000 tons corresponding to the 2016-2017 harvest, amount that was not reached on this date for many years.
Andrés Durán, director of the company AZCUBA in the province, told the press that this result proves that the current harvest is superior to the previous one in terms of the volume of sugar and yield of the industries.
He said that this year the province has planned the largest amount of crude in the country and 110 000 tons of refined sugar.
Duran pointed out the need to take advantage of the days of the current month of March, during which climatic conditions favor the quality of the canes and the sucrose content of the grass.
Rafael Zamora, AZCUBA director of industries in the province, stated that the territory has planned 132 working days in which about 300 000 tons of sugar must be produced.
The total amount expected will represent 100 000 tons more in relation to those made in the previous harvest, which was seriously affected by rains, and difficulties with the rehabilitation of the machines of some mills, he noted.
This year, alcohol must be produced for the preparation of rums and a contribution close to 20 000 megawatt to the National Energy System, Zamora added.
