HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (acn) Cuban Parliament President, Deputy Esteban Lazo recently called on all actors responsible for addressing and finding solutions to the challenges and problems faced by the people to eradicate them and serve the population.
Deputy Lazo spoke last Saturday at the 16th Session of Havana´s People´s Power Assembly as local councilors prepare to report to their voters about their work in community assemblies to start November 1 in all Cuban neighborhoods.
The attention of the people is an every-day duty of all delegates and public officials and there are numerous deficiencies and neglect that upset the people; however, such problems can be solved without using any material resources, Lazo criticized.
He said that the voters constitute the top authority in every electoral district and that the councilor's report assembly is not just a space to raise the problems alone but also for the councilor to explain about his work.
The provincial meeting analyzed the complaints and requests by the people prior to the opening of community assemblies, where the councilors will report on their performance; participants also considered the granting of subsidies and the latest information on the current school year.
The councilors represent the first chain of public officials who are elected for a 2 and a half year period of work. They report to their voters periodically at least twice a year in a local assembly where they offer information of local interest, and consider the needs, challenges and problems of their communities.
