Cuban institution denies reports on US prepaid card

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 28 (acn) Financiera Cimex S.A (FINCIMEX), a Cuban non-banking institution, denied reports that on October 1st, a US corporation will launch a prepaid card that can be used in Cuba.

The Spanish news agency EFE published statements made by the president of International Port Corp (IPC) on a prepaid card named Club Malecon that US travelers could bring to Cuba from next October to meet their money needs while in the island.
According to Granma newspaper, Fincimex says that those statements mislead on the state of the execution of the agreement between them and IPC and has several imprecisions on its scope.
The said card wouldn't be issued by a US entity, and the date of its launching is still to be defined. Once negotiations are over, Fincimex will timely inform on the characteristics of this new service
