Eventbrite Blocks Funds Aimed at Benefiting Students in Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, May 19 (acn) Eventbrite, the largest self-service platform to post an event online, sell tickets, and track sales in the world, blocked funds raised by Cubans living in London, who aimed to donate a piano to Havana's Amadeo Roldan Conservatory.

According to the Nation and Emigration Web site, these people organized a concert of classical music in order to contribute to the artistic education system in Cuba and in order to accomplish their objective they opened an account at Eventbrite, achieving sales of 36 tickets online equivalent to 360 pounds sterling.
However, Eventbrite's bank notified that the payment for the ticket sales had been blocked in accordance with the regulations and program of sanctions of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
This action shows that the blockade against Cuba continues to affect the Cuban people and links with third countries, thus legitimizing more than 55 years of implementation of this hostile policy and slowing down the economic development of Cuba.
