KLM to Increase Number of Flights to Cuba

KLM to Increase Number of Flights to CubaHAVANA, Cuba, May 11 (acn) The Dutch airline KLM will increase its operations to Havana starting from October 30, 2016, when it will incorporate a new direct flight and reach a daily frequency, reported Cubaminrex.

The measure responds to the growing interest in Cuba and to an increase in the number of passengers traveling to the capital of the island from Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, and also corresponds to the remarkable and sustained growth of the arrival of international tourists to the country.
Since 2012, KLM links Amsterdam and Havana with direct flights that have traditionally been operated by A330-200 Airbuses and was recently replaced by a larger aircraft (A330-300), allowing an increase of 50 percent for 2016.
KLM was founded on October 7, 1919, and is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics and Information, Cuba received in the previous year 42,465 citizens from the Netherlands, which represented a 26.8 percent growth compared to 2014.
In January, 4,519 tourists traveled from that country to Cuba, an increase of 37.5 percent with respect to the same period of 2015, thus positioning eleventh in this market among the higher flows of vacationers to the Caribbean island.
It is expected that during the current year Cuba will receive around 3.7 million foreign visitors. According to sources of the Tourism Ministry, tourist arrivals between January and March grew by 13 percent compared to the same period of 2015.
