Minor crime and social indiscipline on the spotlight of community work

HAVANA, Cuba, May 6 (acn) A parliamentary hearing in western Matanzas city addressed the prevention and fight on illegal actions, social indiscipline and minor crime in Cuban society, which, according to participants, must be countered on a permanent basis to guarantee prosperous and sustainable development.

At the hearing, which took place at the Camilo Cienfuegos University of Matanzas, the president of the Parliament's Defense Commission, Brigadier General Rafael Ruiz, stressed the need to implement systematic actions against these problems that affect all Cubans.

Provincial coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution community organization, Osmany Sanchez, said that Cuban neighborhoods witness garbage dumps, aggressive actions at night clubs, inappropriate graffiti on walls, traffic indiscipline, animals wandering on roads, noise and high-volume music in late hours, among other actions.

Sanchez stressed the need for joint efforts at the base to fight this inappropriate behavior in neighborhoods, work centers and farmer communities, according to a report by Juventud Rebelde newspaper.

Roberto Bueno, a fourth-year Math student said that closer relations with the neighbors in needed to address these problems and referred to the significance of working with the families to achieve a change in the behavior of those who commit such inappropriate actions.

Another student named Adrian Villa stressed the potential of Cuban youngsters to have positive impact on the communities through local cultural projects.

The second secretary of the Cuban Women's Federation said that Cubans are lucky to live in such a good society and ratified that there are conditions to do everything much better.
