HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 14 (acn) A delegation of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will soon travel to Cuba to assess possibilities for implementing renewable energy projects in the area, Prensa Latina reported.
Devon Gardner, Manager of the bloc's Energy Development Program, told Havana's ambassador to Guyana, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, that the idea is to finalize plans to produce biogas and generate electricity from agricultural waste such as bagasse, among other initiatives.
According to the official, the regional team will be headed by CARICOM's Secretary General for Trade and Integration, Joseph Cox.
Gardner also praised Cuba's contribution to the integration process of the area, the training of human resources and assistance to the Caribbean peoples, despite being the victim of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States for more than half a century.
CARICOM and Cuba, for over four decades now, maintain diplomatic relations based on friendship and cooperation.
The two parties hold bilateral summits every three years in order to review and expand cooperation and integration projects in areas such as education, health, energy and trade, among others.
