HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 13 (acn) The Cuban Domestic Trade Ministry will soon open wholesale food markets for the private sector, sources with that entity announced.
In statements to Radio Reloj radio station, the first vice-president of the Wholesale of Food and other Consumer Goods Entity, under the Domestic Trade Ministry, Francis Herrera said that the first wholesale markets will soon open in Havana; Placetas, a municipality in central Villa Clara province and in the central city of Trinidad.
These markets are aimed at meeting the high demand of the growing non-state sector, which operates in different service modalities but still has to find its products in retail shops due to the lack of wholesale markets.
The new food markets will offer rice, grains, sugar, chicken, sausages and cooking oil, Herrera said and added that the appropriate supply to these markets must be a priority.
The official admitted that transportation is the main problem for her entity affecting the timely arrival of products to storages and thus their transfer to retails markets.
However she insisted that actions are being taken to guarantee on-time commercialization of the rationed food basket for the population, social allocation of food and other sales.
