Cuban Women and Youths Lead Farmer Organizations

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (acn) Local organizations under the Cuban National Small Farmers Association (ANAP), which groups private land owners, in the western province of Artemisa, are mostly led by young people and especially women.

Young leaders, including over 70 women, actually head 132 out of 136 local cooperative farms, said ANAP president in Artemisa Yamila Sardui.

Sardui told reporters that more that nearly 16 thousand farmers in the territory elected their leaders to their organization in recent assemblies thus setting up a new platform aimed at increasing efficiency and food production.

New cooperative leader Dayron Alvarez stressed the need for the local organizations and their board of directors to join ranks in order to reach the goals set by the most recent plenary session of the National Association.

Alvarez referred to the encouragement of agricultural vocation to guarantee that the future of the farmers be in tune with the cultural development in today's reality.
