Cuban-Dutch Joint Venture Created at Special Development Zone of Mariel
The ceremony was presided over by Ana Teresa Igarza, Director General of the Office of the ZEDM, and Lilianna Ploumen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Cooperation for Development of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in addition to Pedro Fraga and Fabio Prado, presidents of Intersuchel S.A. and Unilever Mexico and the Caribbean, respectively.
The trading companies Unilever N.V. of Holland, and Cuba’s Intersuchel S.A., make up the joint venture authorized to be established as user at the ZEDM, with over 35 million dollars in investment.
Production has been scheduled to begin by the end of 2017, for which a modern plant for the manufacture of toiletries, cleaning and personal and household care of the Sunsilk, Rexona, OMO, Lux and Close-Up brands will be built.
It will also be in charge of marketing and wholesale distribution in the domestic market, in view of the growing demand of the population and an increase in tourism.
While speaking to the press, Ploumen said that the establishment of this joint venture will encourage the increase of commercial relations between Cuba and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Dutch minister is on an official visit to Cuba heading a delegation of 77 companies, as well as sport and culture organizations.
For his part, the leader of Unilever Mexico and Caribbean, Fabio Prado, expressed high expectations for the company, considering that Unilever's brands are acknowledged in Cuba for their presence in the domestic market.
Suchel Unilever S.A., first company of Dutch capital approved at ZEDM, is the ninth company established as a user in this enclave, together with others from Mexico, Spain, Belgium, Brazil and Cuba.
