SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Jan 24 (acn) Last year 62 kilometers of railways were repaired in the provinces of Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus and Villa Clara, improving the trains circulation and the security of passengers in central Cuba.
This time were benefited the railroads connecting Santa Clara to Cienfuegos, Cuban Central Railway to Sancti Spiritus city and the one from this city to Tunas de Zaza town, among other branches, told René González, director of the Central Cuban Railways Company.
Last year´s plan of 71 kilometers was breached despite the hard labor of the workers of this entity and the Cuban Youth Labor Army, mainly due to lack of sleepers, fasteners and other resources, he said.
Gonzalez noted the recovery of 24 local passenger coaches in Caibarién Railway Workshop , and also the repair of 19 cargo trains, thereby fulfilling the scheduled plan in the similar entity of Sagua la Grande municipality.
Last year they surpassed the provisions of transporting passengers, a figure that should grow up in 2013, accompanied by a rise in travelers comfort and also in the cargo traffic to increase usage of this means of transportation.
Reinaldo de Armas, director of Caibarién Railway Workshop, told 5 of the 24 restored coaches were rescued after some time out of service, which meant a contribution to the national transportation of persons.
He added the current year they are planning to repair 41 coaches, for which they have the qualified personnel and the technological capabilities needed.
