LAS TUNAS, Cuba, May 25 (acn) The Antonio Guiteras sugar mill, from Las Tunas province, completed the 100 000 tons of sugar in the current harvest, a figure that confirms it as the largest producer of Cuba, to recover such a condition it was lost in the last years.
According to 26 newspaper, the Uruguay, gigantic mill of Jatibonico in the province of Sancti Spiritus, was its closest pursuer, but stopped its machinery with 91 415 tonnes produced.
This entity located in the municipality of Puerto Padre, which had already served its plan on May 18, needed only 155 days to achieve this amount, with a cost per ton lower than planned and more than four million pesos of profit.
These results contrast with those of the previous season, when the mill had a loss of more than 15 million pesos, said the publication, which added indicates that since 2004 the "Guiteras" did not reach that figure and the last time it met the plan was in 2010-2011 harvest.
The entity continues grinding in order to process the amount the province needs to fulfil its plan, which should be materialized in the middle of next week, according to executives from the sugar company of the territory cited by the newspaper.
With a total of 218 000 tons in 1983, Antonio Guiteras sugar mill set a national record for a harvest, condition that remains in its power.
