2016 International Tourism Fair returns to its birthplace: Havana

The 2016 International Tourism Fair will be held in Havana where the important event initiated. Its 36th edition is also participating in preparations for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Villa of San Cristobal in 2019.

The sites of the tourism fair has also been shared with Varadero Beach Resort, the keys to the north of the central provinces of Villa Clara and Ciego de Avila, but has always returned to its birthplace of Havana.

The last time the Cuban capital hosted the representatives of FITCUBA was in 2011 when it was shared with Mexico which was the guest of honor the multi-destination as its product.

The enclave privileged for its communication and trade; today, is the administrative, political, economic and scientific center of the Caribbean and continues to grow to the eyes of the international community that has witnessed how –despite the US blockade and international crisis- its image improves for the wellbeing of its people and foreign visitors.

Havana, with history and tradition, constitutes a perfect cultural destination. The city also treasures other multiple advantages in its condition of a tourism site: quality beaches, colonial architecture and endless number of recreational sites.

The Cuban capital has great hotels, night clubs and renowned restaurants. Owner of a large number of hotels, the tourism region welcomes clients by air, sea and land, in this case from other parts of the island with special emphasis in the Hicacos Peninsula located some 132 kilometers east of Havana. The non-state sector continues to expand contributing to the sector.

It has not only been its famous Historic center that has benefited from investment in favor of restoring the heritage, but outside its borders there are efforts underway to preserve its beauty in favor of the enjoyment of present and future generations; in addition to the growing number of travelers from different parts of the world that chose Cuba –and Havana in particular- as the ideal option to spend an incredible vacation.

There is still lots of challenges, like the case of the reconstruction of the Manzana de Gomez, where a new commercial network is being lifted and a luxury hotel of some 300 rooms; the Paseo de Prado getting ready to recover its beauty; the Capitol building being refurbished and once concluded will once again be the site of Parliament; and the recovery of the ruins: Marti Theater (1884), with its 19th century neoclassic style offers a visitor an interesting list of performances.

We must mention what is currently happening in the Avenida del Puerto whose work seems from another world. A new life is underway in that area by creators that will turn the Avenue into a social, recreational and tourism option.

That is why this area has become the 25th most photographed site in the world. Havana was ranked 21 by Shigstmap.

Havana has recently been included alongside another 6 cities as one of the 7 wonders of the modern world.

Cuba is connected with over half a dozen cities in the world and has 10 international airports; the most important and modern is located in Havana while its connection by sea involves 10 marinas, two in the Cuban capital in Tarara and Hemingway Marina.

Over 50 percent of the visitors arrive to the island through what is called the door of Cuba to the world; from the first visual impact together with the identity of the Cuban people and the mixture of feelings in Havana attracts a vacationer to promote the destination to friends and family.

Havana then will be the site of the 2016 International Tourism Fair dedicated to the promotion of culture and the Canadian market, which is the first to the Caribbean nation.
