HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 15 (acn) Jaime García-Legaz, Secretary of State for Trade of Spain, said his country looks to reinforce its presence in Cuba in tourism, construction and renewable energy sectors.
García-Legaz leads a 40-member delegation of Spanish entrepreneurs interested in boosting bilateral trade between the two countries.
In an interview with Cuban News Agency, the Spanish official they are looking to restore the historic and intense business relations that cooled off in the last years and to show support to Spanish companies for them to set shop in Cuba
He said the delegation met with the Cuban minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca and gave him two new investment projects. One is a brewery and the second is a plant to produce sanitary fitments, he said.
After the entrepreneurial meeting organized by the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, the delegation will meet with five Cuban ministers, including Tourism, Energy and Mines and Construction, as well as with Vice-President Ricardo Cabrisas, he said.
During the meeting, Joaquín Gay de Montella, vice-president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations, said investments in Cuba from his country surpass the 250 million Euros.
Though Spain is Cuba´s third business partner, after Venezuela and China, bilateral trade dropped some 15 percent last year, a situation they will try to revert now there are new business opportunities in Cuba, they said.
