CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Mar 10 (acn) The Ministry of Agriculture is strengthening this sector in Ciego de Ávila with an investment of 30 million pesos this year, in response to various Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution.
The main beneficiaries are La Cuba Crops Company, Maximo Gomez Baez grain entity and Ceballos agro-industrial enterprise, in order to increase food production.
This strategy includes new machines, land rotation, use of multiple cropping, certified seeds, bio-fertilizers and use of science and technology, experts in the field said.
The Ceballos entity already invested 7. 2 million CUC and two million CUP and has more financing coming for the upgrading of its plant, Wilver Bringas Fernandez, its director, told ACN.
In addition to develop various types of canned fruit and vegetables, the complex is the only one in the island that produces frozen pre-fried potato for tourism and the local market, which goal in the current season is to reach 1 300 tons.
This enterprise is currently focused on strengthening MD-2 pineapple cultivation and for this season they expect to surpass the 600 tons of the product they exported to Europe in 2014, Bringas said.
Meanwhile, Maximo Gomez Baez rice entity is assembling a drying room for up to 110 tons per day and is in the final stage for the installation of four silos with capacity of one hundred tons each, but these works are in arrears.
On the other hand, La Cuba Crops Company, which produced last year more than 11 million pounds of beans and corn, advances in its investing program and now has 10 irrigation machines for these two crops, Carlos Blanco, director of the company, said.
The investment that takes place in Ciego de Avila is one of the highest in recent years, because apart from rice, beans, corn, citrus and fruits, also favors other crops.
