Cuban company diversifies its production to substitute imports

 HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 20 (ACN) With the use of local raw materials, the Villa Clara Vegetable Canning Company Los Atrevidos is diversifying its products for the tourism sector and chain stores for import substitution.

At the recently concluded Innovation for Sustainable Development Fair, the entity presented new products of canned fruits, vegetables, spices and condiments and several tomato sauces.

Gustavo Benitez Fumero, director of the entity, referred exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that currently they produce 30 products diversifying the tomato as Sofrito Remedios, Salsa Atrevidos, Esperanceña, with a base of tomato paste and other dressings to give a unique flavor.

He highlighted the production of other products such as jams and fruit pieces in syrup, spreadable creams, mayonnaise, seasoned pastas using the onion and garlic harvest, pickled vegetables such as beets and carrots in sliced strips, gherkins and onions in vinaigrette.

In view of the sugar deficit, the executive pointed out the search for alternatives such as the use of sweeteners for juices and nectars.

The company has more than 12 production chains with local development projects, mini-industries and self-employed workers and other forms of management to acquire quality agricultural raw materials with high production yields.
