HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (acn) Havana’s International Festival of Habano Cigars closes doors today after presenting awards and with a special dedication to the emblematic Montecristo cigar brand, founded in 1935.
A new shape of the renowned cigar will be launched on the occasion named Montecristo 80th Anniversary, made by expert rollers from a selection of the best wrapper leaves from the famous Vueltabajo western Cuban region, known as the Cradle of Cuban Cigars.
The vice-president of the Habanos Corporation, which markets the Cuban product around the world, said the new shape will be launched in exclusive boxes with unique design, containing 20 cigars bearing a gold color ring.
An exclusive 30-thousand boxes of this new shape will be produced as a commemorative initiative.
The Habano Festival will award the winners of international contests held during the event, such as the Habano-sommelier and the Perfect Smoke. Other awards include the Habano 2015 prizes in the categories of production, business and communication.
And last but not least, the traditional humidor auction will close the evening with excellent works made from precious wood by outstanding Cuban artists. The money collected at the auction will completely be destined to the Cuban health system.
The hundreds of participants at the festival shared experiences during tours of Cuban tobacco plantations, cigar factories, tasting sessions and workshops during this week in the Cuban capital.
