Circular economy promoted in eastern Cuba

HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Aug 14 (ACN) Cuban light industry’s Empresa Gráfica José Miró Argenter of the province of Holguín promotes the circular economy through an alternative line of assorted environmentally-friendly items made with production surpluses.

As befits its social purpose, this state-owned enterprise manufactures teaching aids, planners, gift bags, coloring books for children and other products using waste from the making and binding of books and notebooks and books.

Director Carlos Alberto González Mulet pointed out that in the past they used all scraps of paper, cardboard and other materials as raw material, but now they are making the most of them for the economic benefit of the employees, to the point that they have sold 10 million pesos worth of the said assorted items since 2023.

“These products also contribute to sustainable development programs through the recycling and proper management of solid waste, which is one of the premises of the circular economy,” he added.

Made up of more than 30 factories in fields such as textiles, perfume, footwear, leather, and graphic arts, the national Light Industry Business Group is entrusted with the provision of innovative and competitive products.
Among them stands the province’s graphic arts industry, where a technological retrofitting process is under way with the support of the People's Republic of China which will help expand its services and establish production linkages with the new economic actors.
