Recovery of the economy, main task of Cuban westernmost province

 GUANE, PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Jul 22 (ACN) The recovery of the economy continues being the main battle to be fought in Pinar del Rio, said today Yamile Ramos Cordero, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and first secretary of that political organization in the province.

We are committed to pay more attention to the recovery of housing and increase the local production of construction materials, taking advantage of the potential of the territory, she emphasized during the political act for the 71st anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks, in the municipality of Guane.

The housing plan during the year is 46 % fulfilled and 62,729 of the 102,228 damages caused by hurricane Ian have been solved.

This indicates that there is still much to be done in the search for alternatives and solutions so that all people have a decent place to live, she said.

Increasing food production in an essentially agricultural territory is another priority, and although there is currently growth in viands and vegetables, it is still far from the potential and needs of the province, Ramos Cordero added.

Progress is being made in the recovery of the tobacco infrastructure damaged by Ian, with the efforts of forestry workers and farmers.

In that regard, she pointed out that 5,100 houses have been built and although the estimated yields are not fulfilled, the contributions of Pinar del Rio's tobacco growers to the national economy are significant.

Ramos Cordero acknowledged the work of public health professionals in the province, who have faced serious resource constraints and made it possible to reduce the infant mortality rate to 5.1 per thousand live births.
