SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Feb 4 (acn) The implementation of innovative solutions, care for the environment and agricultural diversification were some of the reasons that warranted the award for the Work of Life to the farmer Anastasio Capote García.
This prize is the highest honor granted by the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forestry Technicians (ACTAF by its Spanish acronym) to peasants of the country highlighting by maintaining high yields on scientific and sustainable basis, as a way to stimulate this endeavour.
Grisel Diaz, ACTAF president in Villa Clara, told ACN that the designation is supported by Capote's sustained work for more than two decades.
She said the direct link with scientific centers and counseling offered by professionals of Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas (UCLV by its Spanish acronym) contribute to his productive achievements.
García Capote said that 20 years ago he founded La Riviera organoponic, in Santa Clara, where he still cultivates several varieties of vegetables.
He added that he has had the opportunity to share his knowledge with farmers of other nations as part of solidarity programs established in Cuba to collaborate with the feeding of poor countries.
Capote García told ACN that the integrated management of soil, establishment of nurseries with genetics high quality seed, production of natural fertilizers and proper rotation of plantations are among other techniques he applies from the instruction received by UCLV experts.
