Central Cuban Enterprise Sets Record on Charcoal Exports

CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Jan 29 (acn) Ceballos Agroindustrial Company reached a record in exports to send to Europe 29 000 tons of charcoal in 2014.

The figure exceeded in 5 500 tons those envisaged for the period and is the highest amount in the history of the organization, its director, engineer Wilver Bringas Fernández, told ACN news agency.

The volume traded was totally made from the Marabou bush and revenues amounted to 9,127,400 dollars.

Gabriela Ballester, responsible for accounting in the company, said that the result is fruit of the efforts of some two thousand charcoal burners hired in the provinces of Granma, Las Tunas, Camagüey, Ciego de Avila and Sancti Spiritus.

Clearing for development of this type of fuel represented the possible exp loitation of about 400 thousand hectares of the thorny plant, part of which can be exploited in livestock, fruit and other crops.

Ballester stated that coal sales were made in Italy, Greece, Syria and Turkey, and are the main export line of the Ceballos Agroindustrial Company, a group that also features 30 mini industries of preserved fruits and vegetables.

Italian entrepreneurs were the ones who purchased the highest volumes for using in the production of pizzas, because with that kind of energy it significantly increases its qualitative properties because its baking is slower, specialists in the culinary arts explained.
