Cuban workers at a major tourist destination improve environmental management

CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Mar 1 (ACN) The willingness of the workers of the Cayo Coco Dolphinarium to continue improving the management of natural resources and develop sustainable tourism in Jardines del Rey was confirmed during a working visit of specialists from the central province of Ciego de Avila, in environmental management.

During the exchange of managers and specialists of this recreational center with experts from the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma by its Spanish acronym) in Ciego de Avila, the Environmental Management System and the compliance with the Coastal Law Decree were checked.

In addition, they reviewed the conditions for gradually aligning with policies promoted in the country, such as sustainable consumption and production, the transition to a circular economy and the replacement of single-use plastics.

Likewise, the main aspects of Law 150/2023 on the Natural Resources and Environment System, which will come into force soon and will lead to transformations in environmental management in all areas, were discussed at this facility located in Cuba's second sun and beach tourist center.

The regulation aims to implement more rigorously the objectives of sustainable development and to ensure that these are incorporated into strategies and plans for economic and social progress, so that growth in these areas is achieved on the basis of rational consumption of natural resources.

Workers at the extra-hotel facility emphasized that, although recreational activities are their main social purpose, they are also committed to protecting the two dolphins at the site, a female rescued after being bitten by a shark and a male born in captivity.

They also ensure that the activities do not overload or stress the animals, therefore, schedules and limits are established for their actions, in the same way that the interaction between the two specimens that coexist in the place is encouraged, taking into account that this bond is positive for a healthy development.

The Cayo Coco Dolphinarium is one of the main options for the recreation of national and international clients in Jardines del Rey, a destination made up of Guillermo, Coco and Paredon Grande keys, where there are currently 28 hotel facilities, mostly frequented by Canadian and Russian clients.
