Cuban Province Forecasts 31 Percent Growth in Sugar ProductionHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 19 (acn) The workers of the sugar industry in the province of Camagüey forecast a 31 percent growth in their production in the coming harvest, compared to last year´s, which will mean about 45 thousand tons more .

Vladimir Perez, director of Camaguey Sugar Company, informed the press that this time five of the seven sugar mills of the territory will be in operation, one more than last season.

All mills will start in the first half of December and the last will be Brasil, inactive for six seasons and subjected to costly repairs and capital investment in the last years, he said.

The Batalla de las Guásimas mill will start the harvest in Camagüey on December the first and will be responsible for the largest sugar output. The executive added that the cane cutting is almost completely mechanized, with KTP and CASE equipment, and announced that in late January next year the province will have new ones that move on tracks, which allow harvest cane in moisture conditions in soils caused by rains.

According to the schedule, the harvest will end in late April.

Some important piece of news from this province is the start of the repairs next January of the Panama sugar mill, inactive as well for several years, reported Erduin Luis Delgado, director of Industrial Plants of the Camaguey Sugar Company. The Panama should be ready by next year´s end.

The seventh mill in the province, the Ignacio Agramonte, should be operational for the 2018-2019 harvest
