Cubans Develop over 1500 Ecological Farms

Havana, Nov 17 (ACN) Cuba now develops 1 573 ecological farms which aimed at preserving natural resources, keeping cultivation and harvesting of healthy products and involved farmers in this kind of food production, said Armando Romero, official with the National Association of Small Private Farmers.

During the 8th International Forum of Agro-Ecology, Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education, the official announced the island expects to have 3 thousand ecological farms having in mind the ongoing preparation of plots of land with that aim.

Participants at the event—running November 14-19—toured different ecological farms in the western provinces of Artemisa, Havana and Mayabeque.

This year, ecological agriculture initiatives count on the assistance of universities and research centers which are working on the transformation of agriculture production systems to come with important scientific and innovative results, the official said.
