Artemisa, Nov 8 (ACN) Ropes, brushes, scouring pads and dusters, all very useful at home are developed from henequen fiber at the Ren Arcay company in the western province of Artemisa as a long-standing tradition.
Henequen is an aboriginal plant grown in Mexico which grows in the area of Mariel, western Cuba. In this area there is a Cuban company known as Henequenera (Henequen grower) originally set up in 1938.
Ana Rosa Sanchez says there is no other work like processing Henequen due perhaps due to her family tradition in working this plant. Sanchez has worked for 30 years in the processing of Henequen as she has discovered the benefits of the plant, which some called Green Gold.
Company director Jesús Alejo Columbié told the Cuban News Agency that his 30 workers plant, take care and collect the fiber and even commercialize the fiber and its derivatives.
Henequen is similar to Cactus so is adapts to warm, dry and useless areas for agriculture; it is of great value to the local industry because this fiber is used in the production of plastics, textiles and paper. Photos available at fotos.acn.cu
