HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 30 (acn) Hugo Swire, Minister of State of the United Kingdom's Foreign Ministry, expressed on Thursday the willingness to support economic changes in Cuba, after signing three memorandums of understanding in the fields of sports, international relations and trade.
During the official ceremony at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Swire pointed out the interest that his country's business community knows the investment opportunities of the Caribbean island.
In that regard, the top official and Antonio Carricarte, Cuba's First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, signed a document proposing to give a boost to trade between the two nations and on joint work in the sectors of tourism, agriculture, energy, infrastructure and biotechnology.
Another agreement, signed together with Rogelio Sierra, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, focuses on the improvement of mechanisms of consultation on topics of mutual interest, and 8nderlines commitment to the principles of International Law, the U.N. Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
A third memorandum was signed by Swire and Roberto Leon, First Vice-president of the National Sports Institute, to formalize cooperation in that sector, in order to favor exchanges between organizations, institutions and teams, and explore opportunities in the sphere of sports tourism.
Swire arrived in Havana on Wednesday as part of an official visit, the program of which includes a meeting with the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Health and Tourism, and representatives of other institutions.
