Havana, May 30 (ACN) A new Mexican-Cuban commercial society called Dagame S.A., dedicated to pig raising, expects to increase pork production.
The new Company, with 50 percent shares owned by Mexico’s Maquinarias y Estructuras Agricolas S.A. will have its headquarters at a farm called “La Emelina,” in the municipality of Alquizar, western Artemisa province, said Edel Sotolongo, associate manager for the Cuban side.
In a first stage, the new company expects to raise pigs to achieve a total of 3 thousand tons annually of live animals, Sotolongo noted.
Meanwhile, the general director of the Ganaderias S.A. company, Maria Dolores Rivero, said that in the first instance, the pork production will be funneled to the Cuban food industry, particularly to the Tauro trading company, as well as sold on e-commerce. Part of the production will also go to the tourist sector and users at the Mariel Special Development Zone, she said.
Dagame S.A. will also develop animal feed with resources contributed by the Mexican partner.
The setting up of the new company is also a step in the country’s opening to foreign investment and in the promotion of future production and trade linkages with the agriculture sector and other economic areas, Sotolongo pointed out.
Dagame S.A. is the second joint venture set up in Cuba in pig raising, a first Company in the sector was set up in the south-central province of Cienfuegos.
