Central Cuban province progresses in slaughter and sale of cattle

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Oct 4 (ACN) After the approval, by the country's top management, of the process for the slaughter, consumption and sale of beef cattle by producers, 126 farmers in Villa Clara -of the 157 approved for this task in the province- have already succeeded in commercializing beef.

At the end of last September, around 250 animals were slaughtered -and their meat sold- in the central province, a figure that will gradually grow as the efficiency in this agricultural sector improves.

Raiza Espinosa Broche, head of the Livestock Department of the Provincial Delegation of Agriculture, told the press that, of the 18,000 livestock owners in Villa Clara (10,000 with more than three cows), only 280 currently meet all the requirements established for slaughter, mainly the sustained growth of the herd, with emphasis on cows.

The executive also commented that the measure has been very well received by the producers and has brought them a perceptible economic benefit, which is why they are focusing more on the genetic development of their herd and the quality of their meat, even without completely solving the problems in the management of the livestock farm and the sowing of animal feed.

Villa Clara is nowadays the second Cuban province with the largest number of cattle heads, only surpassed by Camaguey, which places it as one of the territories with the greatest potential in agricultural development.
